PROPRIETARY SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY
The Intellectual Property (IP) developed by Haplomics was invented by Dr Malcolm J Simons, MB.ChB (NZ), MD (Hons-NZ), DMedSci (UnivTokyo), FACA, FRCPA
Dr Simons was the first scientist in the world to determine that the vast non-coding DNA regions of the human genome played a functional role in genetics and were not just ‘inert junk’. Dr Simons ‘junk DNA’ inventions were published in the following two patents —
Simons MJ. 1989 US Patent No. 5,612,179: Intron sequence analysis method for detection of adjacent and remote locus alleles as haplotypes.
Simons MJ. 1990 US Patent No. 5,851,762: Genomic mapping method by direct haplotyping using intron sequence analysis.
In 2010 Dr Simons was appointed Visiting Professor at the Department of Experimental Research, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, Guandong Province, PR CHINA where he continued with his pre-eminent research into the haploid genetics of Nasopharyngeal Cancer (NPC).
